Gramercy Park Hotel

Paying a visit to the iconic Gramercy Park Hotel, which opened its doors in 1925, far exceeded my admittedly very high expectations. It was truly dreamy. Romantic, sexy, fashionable, and inspiring also…

I had been fantasizing about being a guest here in one way, shape or form, ever since I lived right around the corner twenty plus years ago. It was honestly a dream come true!! DO NOT wait as long as I did to get here!

The Gramercy Park Hotel is a historic yet swanky boutique hotel located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in New York City, Gramercy Park. A stay here includes a coveted key to New York’s ONLY private park!

The hotel decor is the absolute most perfect blend of elegance, luxury, and eclectic design. The entire space had my heart racing, my mouth drooling, and my mind inspired. Oscar-nominated director Julian Schnabel designed it.

The lobby felt gothic, like sins were about to be made. It’s dark and moody, sexy and mysterious. There’s an Italian handcrafted fireplace, and opulent crystal chandeliers hang above your head, as does gorgeous wooden inlay. Blood colored velvet drapes warm and gives extra height to space. My favorite part immediately, and what drew me close, was definitely the pressed butterfly piece reminiscent of stained glass. It was mesmerizing and maybe even a bit morbid.

Don’t forget to take a whiff while in the lobby. What you’ll smell here is Cade 26, a smokey signature candle scent made exclusively for the hotel by Le Labo.

The art alone was absolutely suburb and included original Warhols, most of which I had never seen before…and I’ve seen quite a few. The hotel also showcases other icons such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Enoc Perez, Fernando Botero, Tom Wesselman, and Damien Hirst, to name a few.

It’s no wonder while speaking about Gramercy, Forbes magazine has said, “The Most Impressive Art Museum In New York Is Actually A Hotel.”

New edgy pieces are added to the hotel’s impressive collection regularly to ensure guests never have the same experience twice.

I attended a wedding reception here, which took place on the terrace, and upon entering, we were greeted immediately with champagne. ((You had me at “hello”)).

The room we entered first was filled with exposed lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling. It is like walking IN an art installation, and I couldn’t stop staring!! I was told by one of the many friendly employees just how many bulbs were there. Bet you can’t guess!

*Hint: 4,000

You will also a marble fireplace filled with mood-setting pillar candles, plush red velvet curtains, a dramatic black, and white checkered floor, and super funky, edgy artwork made from unexpected materials such as razor blades, as seen below.

The brunch was classic, tasteful, and straightforward. It started with a basket with pastries for the table and a dish of fresh fruit and smoked salmon topped with capers.

There was a refreshing first course of Persian watermelon cucumber salad with herb dusted feta. Everyone raved about this seemingly simple dish, including me!

There was a lovely printed menu at each place, seating with the couple’s names and simple stunning flower arrangement at the beautiful long tables in what felt like a greenhouse as greenery was hanging all around.

Plated meals included your choice of egg white frittata or buttermilk fried chicken and waffles.

The bride contacted Chef Danny Meyers for me, and he made me a truly delicious vegan spicy zucchini and eggplant marinara dish. I wanted some to take home!!

The sweet couple hired a violinist, a kind, INSANELY talented man, who I later became Insta friends with, named James Teal. His take on many of your favorite popular songs plus the rain beating down on the big open windows and the NYC view was genuinely spectacular!

It was all a perfect classy, super special event and space.

The entire staff was terrific and friendly, down to the valet guys. I chatted with one employee about the artwork for quite a while. She was super knowledgeable about every piece.

The staff was very much on top of ushering everyone from the cocktail area to their seats and back to the bar area for dessert. They were also so quick to set up Lauderee macaron favor boxes at the exit. It seems as if they took a lot of stress and responsibilities off of the bride herself.

If you’re considering hosting an event here, DO NOT HESITATE! It’s all-around perfection and sure to leave your guest talking about it forever. If you’re invited as a guest, get your camera, aka phone, ready!

An overnight stay in one of the drop-dead gorgeous rooms here at GPH is magical! Former guests include some of the world’s greatest…Humphrey Bogart, JFK, Babe Ruth, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles, who have given the hotel its “rock and roll edge it maintains today.”

Each of the unique rooms features imported 400 thread count Italian linens, imported rugs, original red oak flooring, vanities made from St. Laurent marble, hand-stitched leather top writing desks, Bluetooth enabled Marshall speaker made exclusively for the hotel, mahogany wood English drink cabinets, and luxurious bath products by Aesop.

The Gramercy offers in-room spa treatments plus a blissful steam bath, complimentary to ALL guests!

Delicious food, fine dining, the best entertainment, and creative cocktails are all readily available at Gramercy Park Hotel.

Maialino is a Roman-inspired restaurant located on-site. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch, where you can find olive oil muffins, toffee glazed brioche buns, rustic tarts, and their infamous pasta dishes, such as the delectable cacio e pepe, which start coming out of the kitchen at noon.

The famous Rose Bar is known for hosting press releases, film screenings, New York City Fashion Week after-parties. You never know just who you’ll bump into here! The champagne list is super impressive, as are the celeb photographs by the one and only David LaChapelle. Don’t miss Eminem’s ‘About to Blow.’ Scandalous.

Tip: after copious amounts of champs, order the ‘Elvis For President’ made with baked apple syrup and orange bitters!

That’s a small alcove off the side called The Jade Bar, and that’s where A-listers looking for a reprieve from the city go for exotic cocktails, aperitif, and small bites! Killer DJs spin here, and icons such as Liza Manelli have entertained here also!

*The bars are open until 4 am but reservations remain limited and coveted and after 9 pm it’s invitation only.

If you rather dine in your cozy room, modern takes on American classic comfort food by Chef Matt Spivey are also available for room service.

My experience here at Gramercy Park Hotel was so out of this world that I’m definitely planning another visit and highly suggest you do too! You can book your stay HERE!

Maybe I’ll see you there?! XOX, Sar

SHOP MY LOOK

I adored THIS BGBG dress so much I went back and purchased it in two other colors. It’s a great LBD that can be sexy and/or classic depending on how you style it. It’s a great midi length that made it appropriate for more professional events but unsnap the bust and it’s so sexy! It hugs curves and is sooo comfy! Oh, and pockets!

Again, my black faux leather jacket is a go-to! I swear it goes with everything!

These INC shoes have been such a show-stopper since I purchased them. They can jazz up any outfit and I receive so many compliments on them.

Unfortunately, they’re sold out but here’s a few similar styles.
