What a shame to hear of the closing of neighborhood fave, Dimitri’s, but there is another pretty tasty fresh fish/seafood spot that has taken home on the quaint, adorable corner in Queen Village.
Mari is a BYO, as the name suggests. It’s cash only, although we must have seemed to have missed that on their website, social media, & Yelp page. Bring cash money, honey! The closest ATM is a good 10 minute walk.
Mari has a super solid menu, plus some amazing specials like fruita Del Mar over linguini, crab cluster pasta and salmon steak that will satisfy any seafood & fish craving you may have. You’ll also find lamb & steak, like hanger, as well. They offer a $40 prix fixe menu that is really the way to go if you’re hungry as each entree is roughly $25-$28 alone anyway. (It’s also a simple way to split the bill if you have a larger party). You then have your choice of a bunch of delicious apps, some are very generous portions, entree of choice, and dessert, which could be a marscapone limoncello cake, a classic affogatto, or a decadent Nutella cannoli topped with pistachio and salted caramel. All winners!
Our party of 6 started with the wild shrimp covered in a tangy, sweet, lightly spiced sauce, about 6 to the order. Yum! Another was the smoked salmon spread, and fried manchego with crispy panko. The Spanish cheese & shrimp were both delish, although if you’re a expecting the cheese to be a bit more on the melty side like that of a fried mozzarella, that won’t be happening with this dish. That’s not the way manchego works. Nevertheless, worth ordering.
A stellar entree was the monkfish & mussels served with grilled Italian bread in perfect Fra diablo sauce. It was served piping hot, right in the skillet it was cooked in. Yasss! There were two fillets and over a dozen mussels. This is a excellent and wonderful dish for sharing!
The scallops over corn succotash in a lobster sauce were another excellent choice. They were cooked just right and decent sized. That corn makes for an awesome tasty side dish anytime! Give me an entire container to-go! Although the dish was lighter, the lobster sauce gave it a creamier consultancy and took the flavor beyond!!
The lemon cake was light and tart, but also filling with the heavy sweet cheese. It was topped with shredded coconut which was unexpectedly but an amazing addition. It was a nice combo for the ending of summer, working our way into fall where the food gets heavier.
A truly fabulous night outside in 70 degree weather was had by all. It was just the loveliest! The meal deal was a fun way to go with a larger party! I highly recommend it! It’s a no brained.
The tables were properly spaced out on the street for Covid, we weren’t rushed at all, and we saved quite a bit by bringing our own bottles & brews. Ice bucket was immediately provided. Don’t forget to bring your bottles and brews!
There’s a need for this restaurant in this location, and I welcome it warmly. You won’t be disappointed heading here!
It would make for a fab date night, too!
Also, kuddos to Mari for open up in the midst of a pandemic! Wow!
