The Academy Awards are like my Super Bowl!! This year I was especially stoked as it was the first year I FINALLY fulfilled my goal of seeing every single nominated film….and there were some really fantastic ones!! Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born, Vice, The Favourite, Greenbook! Ahh! So good. So, so good. I have been counting down to today for quite a while, and our house it’s divided, so it should be a VERY interesting night!!!
Meanwhile, we’re watching all of the pre-shows for the fashion, of course. The red carpet is ALMOST just as important as the films themselves, and I just can’t get enough!! Here’s my personal recap of the hottest, the trends, and the not so hots of the evening and The Vanity Fair after-party…
2019 Trends: Femininity and pink, starting with my favorite pink look of the night, Kiki Layne in Versace
Overall head to toe winners:
Regina King in a gorgeously draped Oscar de la Renta with sleek, simple hair. One statement piece and classic pumps to match. Constance Wu was pure sunshine in her custom Versace with an asymmetric bodice, a simple pony, and perfect bold red lip. Amy Adams in a perfect fitting Versace that with her skin tone made her look like gorgeous ice when. Add natural hair and a statement necklace. Emma Stone (who can honestly do no wrong!) in Louis Vuitton. Some joked that this reminded them of waffles. I adored the dramatic shoulder and the unique color choice.…with chocolaty bronzed hair and makeup to match!
Lady Gaga in Alexander Mc Queen. Classic but not, and I love the addition of the leather gloves as a nod to her rockin’ roots. Add the classic old Hollywood glamour hair and THEE 128 carat canary yellow Tiffany diamond valued at over $30 million dollars!! PURE STUNNER!
Hottest couples on the carpet:
My new favorite power couple is on & off-screen adorable, retro duo, Rami Malek & Lucy Boynton. They are youthful perfection. It’s also so nice to see people in the spotlight their age so refined and classy.
This photo could easily be from 40 years ago or taken 40 years from now and still, be classic and elegant. I’m OBSESSED with these two and couldn’t be happier for his success.
Jen & ARod. While I do think Jen’s Tom Ford is a bit more appropriate for The Grammy’s, she still looks unreal as always, and together with his mixed match tux look from the same designer, they look edgy but still dapper.
Missed for me:
Kristin Cavallari. It felt a bit “prom-ish” to me and I’ve definitely seen her do MUCH better. I do admire the pop of color in her emerald earrings.
Ashley Graham: Definitely a bit too safe for me in her Zac Posen. While her curves are KILLER, the hair and the jewels are just too obvious for me, especially for her first Oscar red carpet walk. I appreciate letting her va va voom curves be the star, but a little more effort in may at least the jewels would’ve been a bit more polished for me. Charlize Theron. I much prefer her as a blonde and this powder blue Maria Grazia Chuiri custom Dior is just a bit ill-fitting in the abdomen to me. Also, her collection of statement jewels including her 20 carats of sapphires from BVLGARI’s Serpenti Collection had me all over the place. I simply would’ve left it with just the necklace. I know everyone raves over this look. I just wasn’t a fan. At all.
Just. Plain. Awful. :
Billy Porter Spike Lee’s tribute to Prince Chadwick Boseman in Givenchy
My favorite after-party looks!!
Isla Fisher killed it in Jonathan Simkhai Emma Roberts In YANINA Couture Rose Huntington Whitley in Atelier Versace Jon Hamm in velvet. Because, well, Don Drapper is just dapper.
Lauren Paul In Tadashi with “Jesse Pinkman” for their Mommy & Daddy’s night out I’m torn with Kendall Jenner’s look. Leave a comment and let me know what you think. On one hand, I’m WOWED on the other o think it’s a bit much….but then again, she can soooo…
